Why I have a tiger plush toy in my office

Of all the things someone would treasure in their office, what is the quirkiest, most random, non-work-related one that you have seen? Or, have?
For many reasons my colleagues love to hang in my office. They enjoy browsing through the stacks of magazines that are sent regularly by various publications, or just to make a mess of my postcards collection. And of course to discuss work in between.

And more often than not, they will lay eyes on my small tiger plush toy chilling on my bookshelf. And they will ask me "Why do you have a tiger toy in your office?"

And that, my friend, is my cue.

Bintang has arrived

I have posted about this before (read herebut here's an update as the official certificate has arrived. I have also received post cards, fact sheets of all three animals; Sumatran Tiger, Narwhal, and sniffer Labrador... and... a Tiger soft toy I named Bintang!
My eyes lit up like a 5 y.o seeing a birthday cake with flickering candles when a DHL guy walked into my office with a giant WWF bag. A recycled bag, by the way.

ps: I have been fortunate enough to learn that my blog has become an inspiration to my readers (listed or not). Some have actually started to write their own blog, taking notes on my fashion style, and even swear by my soul baring imperfect wits (why, thank you!).

So I hope, by posting this story, I can encourage any of you to do the same too. Never hurt to act a little kinder/ care more than necessary. This is how to adopt and if you want to know; why Sumatran Tiger?

Mama Tiger

Am a Mama Tiger!

And I also have a Narwhal and a sniffer Labrador!

Back in 2007, I donated some fund to Schmutzer; a primate center in Jakarta, and actually partake in voluntary work. After that, helped by a friend, I supported OFI with little things like cash contributions, purchasing merchandises, etc. My dream of going on ECO tours to see the gorgeous Orangutans shall wait.

The past two years, if you have been following my blog, you will notice that Sumatran Tigers have become another one of my concern. It is just heart breaking to see the vanishing populations. Today, fewer than 400 of that graceful big cats exist.
I then learned about Narwhals(the closest thing we have to Unicorn!). This goofy looking sea unicorns been harvested for its meat and ivory. Are we really that greedy?

But here's a happier news. As a newly four-legged ‪#‎wwf‬ team, sniffer Labradors (and German Shepherds) are being deployed in airports and at checkpoints to stop illegal wildlife trade. How PAWsome is that?

I cannot join rangers in the wilderness, nor save the sea-unicorns with my hands. And my nose is only good in sniffing good food.
But I want my children to still be able see them in future. That is all.

If you have the same dream, maybe you want to adopt them too..WWF.

New-born Sumatran Tiger Babies!

This news is both a happy and sad one.
Happy that the Sumatran tiger cubs and mama are all healthy, safe and roaring loud! Sad that here in their very own country, Sumatran tigers are not yet having the attention and conservation they deserve. If you want to support the cause, let me know.
I did. With faith that my grand-kids will never have to learn about Sumatran tigers in the 'extinct' section of an animal's encyclopedia. I, one Sumatran lady will make sure of that. I hope you are in!

You can read the full story of Mama Tiger, Damai (means 'Peace' in Bahasa) and her cubs here.

ps: Help making sure our future children will still get to see them :)
