Sophia, the youngest feminist to date

Sophia Trow (8 y.o) and her mother, Jane, went to a Clarks retail store in England to purchase a pair of Stomposaurus shoes. It's "just" and awesome collection, featuring little dinosaurs fit for any adventurer or a Ross Geller wanna be.

There was just one problem... the shoes were labeled as boys’ shoes. When Sophia claimed that she wanted them, the sales clerk immediately told her that they aren’t made for “feminine bone structure.”
I am pretty sure Sophia rolled her eyes (like any feminist would) when being told so because she wrote the following letter (see image at the bottom)
It is reported that Sophia went on to explain, “I don’t like how girls just have to like pink and purple – I like blue and science and fossils. Clarks should learn what girls really want and do something about it.”
Supporting her strong daughter, Jane tweeted it to Clarks. “I want my children to have options,” she said. “I don’t want them hampered by expectations that tell them how they should behave as girls – I want them to be able to do whatever they want to do and become strong women." to which Clarks responded with “We are sorry to hear that Sophia was informed these shoes aren’t suitable for girls. The Stomposaurus range can safely be worn by all children. We are also developing a broader range of unisex styles which will be available from Autumn/Winter this year.”
Kudos, Sophia! And I am sure you are going to end up doing great things, like this girl, and this boy
Just wondering tho... maybe you and I would like to start a petition so Clarks would make these Stomposaurus shoes in adult sizes too?
PS: That one cute nerd: Sophia Trow and THAT SHOES!
Also, have you seen this campaign : #LikeaGirl ? (I almost cried... since, am a girl, obvs!)

Nerdy Not

I did mention to you before that I am supposed to wear glasses. But to this very day, I am still sticking my nose to a book and forcing my eyes to work harder just because I have not yet found the perfect glasses that will not give me migraine after two hours. And no brands of contacts, be it cheap or expensive not giving me horrifying allergies. Oh, the drama!

That, and ahem... I am not that confident wearing them.

But when my sister told me that my eyes can get worse as a result of my ignorance, I think I will have to obey this one rule.
So, here's my attempt, to not look that nerdy.

What do you think?

Weird

I am that girl.
I play Christmas songs in June just to get a better mood and wipe my own tears away. I make strange gestures when I have my 'Eureka!' moments and I cannot control them. Ever.
I may not like half of the songs from this month's top 40. They are not 'old' enough for my old-soul and for my ears.
I am that girl.
I do not answer calls right away and that does not mean that I do not like you, nor too busy. It's just that, at that time, I do not have the energy to chat. I will call you back. I can make sure of that.
I am that girl. that will allow you to walk away if you think you want to. I will stop and actually smell the roses whenever I am in a rush. I like animals more than most people, I listen to Sinatra, Pearl Jam, Incubus, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles...and yet, read Tolstoy and Harper Lee and draw on people's note pads.

I am that weird girl. Who would really appreciate a card of a 'just cause' rather than expensive dinner and is offended if not getting an invite to a game night with beers with the boys but is fine with hitting the pause button to clubbing for...years.

Who would appreciate space. But might let you nestle under her arms if you really are in need. For as long as you mind that it's the dogs that she will be more often talking to.
Who thinks cartoon movies are the best next to all Sundance fest movies and wish that Pippi Longstocking can be her friend in life.

I am that girl.
Who's -no matter how much she would deny it- ... is a die hard believer of Love.

Yep.

Date a girl who reads. And better yet, who writes

My partner, critics, friend in writing, Yendi Amalia, posted this article on my facebook wall. I read them all with feelings that are so hard to illustrate. Too funny!

I bold lines that I can relate to:

And, thank you Yendi! We both know that a girl who reads (and writes) should not settle for anything less :)) Hahaha...
Date a girl who reads. Date a girl who spends her money on books instead of clothes. She has problems with closet space because she has too many books. Date a girl who has a list of books she wants to read, who has had a library card since she was twelve. (Try 9!)

Find a girl who reads. You’ll know that she does because she will always have an unread book in her bag. She’s the one lovingly looking over the shelves in the bookstore, the one who quietly cries out when she finds the book she wants. You see the weird chick sniffing the pages of an old book in a second hand book shop? That’s the reader. They can never resist smelling the pages, especially when they are yellow.

She’s the girl reading while waiting in that coffee shop down the street. If you take a peek at her mug, the non-dairy creamer is floating on top because she’s kind of engrossed already. Lost in a world of the author’s making. Sit down. She might give you a glare, as most girls who read do not like to be interrupted. Ask her if she likes the book.

Buy her another cup of coffee.

Let her know what you really think of Murakami. See if she got through the first chapter of Fellowship. Understand that if she says she understood James Joyce’s Ulysses she’s just saying that to sound intelligent. Ask her if she loves Alice or she would like to be Alice.

It’s easy to date a girl who reads. Give her books for her birthday, for Christmas and for anniversaries. Give her the gift of words, in poetry, in song. Give her Neruda, Pound, Sexton, Cummings. Let her know that you understand that words are love. Understand that she knows the difference between books and reality but by god, she’s going to try to make her life a little like her favorite book. It will never be your fault if she does.

She has to give it a shot somehow.

Lie to her. If she understands syntax, she will understand your need to lie. Behind words are other things: motivation, value, nuance, dialogue. It will not be the end of the world.

Fail her. Because a girl who reads knows that failure always leads up to the climax. Because girls who understand that all things will come to end. That you can always write a sequel. That you can begin again and again and still be the hero. That life is meant to have a villain or two.

Why be frightened of everything that you are not? Girls who read understand that people, like characters, develop. Except in the Twilight series. (:))))

If you find a girl who reads, keep her close. When you find her up at 2 AM clutching a book to her chest and weeping, make her a cup of tea and hold her. You may lose her for a couple of hours but she will always come back to you. She’ll talk as if the characters in the book are real, because for a while, they always are.

You will propose on a hot air balloon. Or during a rock concert. Or very casually next time she’s sick. Over Skype.

You will smile so hard you will wonder why your heart hasn’t burst and bled out all over your chest yet. You will write the story of your lives, have kids with strange names and even stranger tastes. She will introduce your children to the Cat in the Hat and Aslan, maybe in the same day. You will walk the winters of your old age together and she will recite Keats under her breath while you shake the snow off your boots.

Date a girl who reads because you deserve it. You deserve a girl who can give you the most colorful life imaginable. If you can only give her monotony, and stale hours and half-baked proposals, then you’re better off alone. If you want the world and the worlds beyond it, date a girl who reads.

Or better yet, date a girl who writes.

Nerd Quirk : Smell of a new book

Nerd Quirk

This nerdy girl is not entirely correct. The smell of a new book is not my favorite smell in the world.
Well.. it is my second favorite.

My first? Hmmm you know... the smell of an old book :)

ps: I know I did say goodnight but I just read this  book again (one of my all time fave): You are one third Daffodil
Not and old book- but printed in a design of a vintage: cover, pages, fonts, smell (since I owned it for years now). Funny too!
So, goodnight again.

Nerd Quirk

from Nerdquirk

Confession 1: I know exactly what this girl is dreaming about. I do.

Confession 2: I need glasses. Since like 7 years ago. But they gave me a massive headache at the end of the day and up to this second I still haven't found any contacts that is not causing my eyes all watery, itchy and red. Turns out; I am allergic. No matter how "natural" they are, I just cannot wear them. So I am sticking my nose real close to a book when I read to get a better vision.

Confession 3: I am not going to tell you all about it tonight.

Regards,
Some kinda nerd. xx
