Gingham Crush

Want to rock this style soon:)
Striped shirt and classic white top are still my fave but Gingham is another pattern/style that I think I can follow too.

I am not that much of a trend follower, but I just want to know, what do you think of this 2013 Fashion Trend?
Anything you like?

1 Kings 20:5

This verse is very soothing for me... My healing process is making me realize how precious our health is and how no matter how strong you think you are, it is always good to know that you are allowed to nestle under God's healing arms whenever you need to.

Thank you God.

Merry Christmas

Well hello. I just spent Christmas (Eve and Day) at the hospital. Being far from family during the holiday is hard, not to mention having to be hospitalized. Super sad. I am not sharing the detail here, but I just want to say that I am getting better and stronger now. Still have to rest a lot at home, but I have faith that God is healing me through all the treatment and medicine from the doctor.
I hope it is not too far too late for me to wish you a Merry Christmas. God be with you and your family.

ps: This picture below reminds me of my house (which will be ready in just a few months!). Next year Christmas will be a lot more exciting :).

Mamak dan Ulos Tujung

Hari ini Hari Ibu. Katanya.

A Merry Little Christmas

I feel horrible that I did not shower an enough of Festive posts this year. This illness is killing me.
But I am going to get the best medical treatment soon and be good as new in no time (fingers crossed!).
I hope this one song will be a good touch. James Taylor is one of my fave (yes, Dad introduced me to him).

Faux Pas I Made and Liked

How cheeky is this notebook?
Now let me ask, if you have this notebook and you have to fill them in, what do you think the content will be?
Oh I have plenty and many of them are a bit personal..haha. But here’s a few of my not so scandalous 'faux pas':
  • Picked the wrong major in college. I love journalism and I knew it even when I was 10 years old. But I went for Economy instead. But without it, I would not meet my friends and would miss out on the crazy and fun experience of living in a house I rented with 3 other boys who still are my greatest friends. And that 'faux' did not stop me from doing things I like (and get paid at the same time)
  • Dated and or kissed frogs. That’s what I call a douche with. But, maybe you have to kissed a hundreds of frogs before you get to kiss a prince?
  • I bailed out on Yoga class last year. Though when seeing my friend doing her pretzel pose, I can be very envious, I have to admit that I am enjoying my extra sleeping hours even more.
  • Bought a pair of shoes at the price of USD300. Oh wait, that was not a ‘faux pas’ ;)
ps: Will you tell me yours?

Life of Pi

Oh my! I used to be a reluctant when it comes to a book adaptation movie. But, here's a confession, I actually have seen "To Kill a Mockingbird", yes, the black and white movie :)
So I think it's no harm to watch another one. Especially one that is supposedly an 'unfilmable book' by Yann Martel.

Let me jot the reasons down:

The director is Ang Lee: Have you not seen the "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon"?
A 3D: I love being visually intrigued and entertained.
Tear jerking trailer: Obviously.

Blue Christmas

You know... I am thinking of no one but you whenever I hear this song. I bought the album a year ago when I was in Singapore for a business trip. Silly enough, I could not wait to hear it so I played them whilst getting ready for a gala dinner that very evening.
The result? Swollen eyes. It took me a half pint of eye shadow to hide them.

I am blaming it to this particular song. It broke my heart at that time, Dad.
And it still does today.

Inspiration Sunday: To be One

I am sure many of us here can easily mention names of inspiring people. Be it in your career, your love story or maybe in other things that may either be big or small in life. It can be about building your dreams, weight loss, or maybe in fighting serious illness. He or she can be a writer, a poet, an astronaut. They can be your parents or even a complete stranger. You may have met them, or follow them on social media (if the word stalking is too harsh), or collect their journals.
But, have you met someone who can look you in the eye and tell you  that you have become their inspiration?
You may look back, shook your head and say "Nah, I did not invent the penicillin, why would someone think of me an an idol or as an inspiring person?".

Think again.

I learn that we should not limit the meaning of a word. This includes the meaning to 'inspiration'. You may not have published an earth shattering book or produced a box office movie. But the way you face your daily life without complain and your positivity can be contagious and without you noticing, your friend sitting in the next cubicle will with or without her consciousness,  complain less. She may not realize it, but you inspire her. Your determination can affect your spouse, or your team. Your sense of gratitude may influence your child. That shade of your lipstick and blush that lightens up your smile can be a reason for someone to re arrange her make up kit. The way you rock a classic style, or maybe how you carefully select your play list can also be an inspiration.

Recently, I found that someone is starting to write because of me. Well, 2 people actually. One is a dear friend and the other one is a stranger who is a hidden reader (*grind).
I am inspired by other writers too. And I thank my wander mind because no matter how much I read, I still have this way of phrasing paragraphs in my very own style. And that's just a little thing. I hope I am also an inspiration to my dear siblings and family, or best friends too in other ways.

And there's never going to be a day where I would say "This is enough" to my list of inspiring people. Because I believe, the more you think of many, the bigger chance you can be one to somebody. Thank you sweethearts.

ps: Just a few names of my Inspiring People :)

Heroes in Your Life

Well hello November 10. Day for all heroes. A day when the people of Indonesia celebrate National Heroes Day to commemorate a chain of events collectively known as the Battle of Surabaya — a confrontation and battle between pro-independence Indonesian soldiers, or Nederlandsch Indie Civil Administratie , and British and Dutch (VOC) troops during the fight for independence. Bung Tomo (Sutomo), is one of the key icons celebrated on National Heroes Day.

I played 'Bung Tomo' once in elementary school and rewarded as the 'Best Performer' :) ( yes, I played a man's character).
As I reluctantly leave my childhood behind, I realize that National Heroes Day is not merely about people who have died in a battle field. Your hero, can be anyone in you life. With all my high respects to the veterans, whenever this day comes, I always treasure other heroes I luckily happened to cross paths with, and heroes I still have in my life.

They are:
Teachers. This mostly because I grew up with one, my dear late Grandfather/ Ompung Andersen Simanjuntak. His noble life enables me to see teachers as a bridge to my dreams. They teach you, they make sure you understand, they test you so that you will be prepared and armed by the time they have to let you go. And they just stand there. Being proud and all, before soon to be forgotten. It saddens me to admit the bitter truth that here in this country, my one and only Indonesia, teachers welfare is somewhat there below the horizons. 'Heroes Without Medals' indeed. If you still have a chance to bring an apple to your teacher's desk, do so. Thank them. It will shower their heart with even more happiness to teach their students.

Mothers. My Mom is nothing like Claire Huxtable or any other ideal Mom you can ever think of. My Mom is the most unique,  unpredictable, free-spirited and bluntly speaking, a handful! But trough her history, I learned to appreciate life even more. Witnessing what she has been through and the fact that she keeps going; somehow elevates me. I know her well so I can say that she's been really brave. She did fight for me once after all. And, yes, every mother did. The battle they went through during labor risk nothing but their life. And it does not end there. Or maybe, it never will. So be grateful if you are a Mama. No matter what your teenagers say to your face today, they will soon look back and realize how much they love you.

How about you? Who your heroes are? Firefighters?, Doctors?, Missioners?.
ps: Selamat Hari Pahlawan, Indonesia.

Baron or Marilyn

I have been thinking about having a black Labrador as a pet, a lot. Thinking about it everyday! On my way to work, shop, anywhere, I whine and moan whenever I see someone walking their dogs around. I have Bosco (mix of daschund  and pointer) at home in Jakarta but bringing him to Bali is administratively painful, and not to mention that my sister already fall for him and takes care of Bosco as if it is her own.

Needless to say, it will be too selfish if I push myself to own a black lab now. So maybe, this can be my birthday gift next year...*wink.
Do I already have a name?
You bet I do.
Who do you think this black beauty is, is it Baron, or Marilyn? :)

Worry Me

I have this big gulp of worry that is taking a giant place in my heart, mind and soul. Truth, I cannot even pray about it and of course me posting this is just one way of my mind taking a deep breath. I know I should not worry, I now I will find a way eventually to get out of this unexpected condition, and I can get the help, the support I need.

What do you do when you worry? I chose to be alone for quite a while, try to untangle my mind, think of positive thoughts, watch cartoon. But being one realist, I only be able to do those only if I can manage to lay down a way or two possibilities to get my problem solved.
I just got one. And gawd how I really wish it is going to work.

November (not yet) rain

Ah, here it comes; November.
I always have mixed feelings about November. Mellow and blue because it reminds me of my dad (born in November 5th), intrigued because it means I only have 2 more months to make sure that I have achieved enough this year (yea...yea...the so called resolution), excited for my sister Maharani's birthday, My sister Detrianne's and Leonardus anniversary... and all giddy because it also means Christmas is lurking!

But, is it just me or the year 2012 seems to move in a speed of a bullet? Feels like it was only yesterday when I shower you guys with holiday posts and now we are getting ready to talk about the feast again?

Oh well, whatever the next 2 months will bring, I wish you a warm heart to welcome November and - hopefully- its rains (Bali has been too sizzling hot! dry season seems to stick around longer).

ps: A song to kick off this November :)

Sumpah Pemuda

Coba minta seorang kakek bercerita.

Menyoal ideologi, bukan melulu tren terkini.

Selamat Hari Sumpah Pemuda.

Tell me your dreams

And you know what, I also mention something about buying a house, last December, here: If you were not afraid . Not only in my Bucket List post!
Isn't that crazy how things can fall together for the best of you? How you are drawn to  achieve your dreams

I cannot thank my God enough. Sorry for the overwhelming posts on this subject tho' ;). For some people this might just be an -ah, ok- moment, but for me; this is huge.

Do I have other dreams? Hell ya, this is one of the big one and there still sooo many... Well, the list also contains something like 'Own a Chanel bag' (yes, I do not own one and I refuse to buy a faux!), or 'Ink my body' (this one is more related to my guts).

I want to know. What is in your bucket list? What your dreams are? The wildest? The corniest?

No #1 in my Bucket List, checked!

Exactly a year ago, I posted this , and in that post I mentioned one vivid point about how I someday will be too busy to blog being too occupied decorating my own house. Well... let me tell you something that I have been meaning to tell you!

Truth be told, I can be a bit superstitious sometimes. Simply because I can be too afraid that I am going to jinx it. Haha! But now, I can let the 'not so much of a secret' out. I cannot describe you enough on how happy I am, and how blessed I am as one God's child.
Years and years of hard work pays off indeed. I can be very determined too when it comes to a goal, but still...this is only because of God's grace. He enables me to achieve something that is greater than anything that ever comes to my mind. Bigger than what I can ever imagined.

And though that I realize (with all my heart and soul) that I have to work twice as smart and hard after this, I have an absolute reason to do so. By super strong willingness, a giant faith and guts.... I am happy to tell you that... *drum roll
Well, let's just say I need this kind of book now :)

Yes, I am what it says on the title.

Thank you for letting me see things beyond my understanding. Thank you thinking of me as a to die for. For chastising me. For having faith in me when I almost cannot believe in myself. For teaching me how to have faith in other people...for standing beside me when the road is dark and narrow.
Thank You, for enabling me to see the tiniest light at the end of the tunnel, even when the world is at a hesitation.

May my vision, hearing and action will always be guided by You.

The Glass Castle

I adore this beautiful book by Jeanette Walls. Have you read it? It took me 2 days only to eat, gorge, devour all the 288 pages (super small pt!). Her memoir is beautifully written with a bittersweet narration that’s just going to blow you away if it is not going to bury you.

Her unconventional childhood brings back a poignant part of mine. And I am thankful for the coincidental fact that I read this book, for it make me realize how I have been blessed. And will always be.

The dysfunctional system does not seem strange to me, the ‘making believe’ adventures can easily be related with mine too, the - what appears to be - a forced independency and all the ‘skeedadle’ feels familiar to my bones.

Jeannette inspires me to be brave. To not be ashamed of your past, no matter how strange, impossible, and rotten they may seem.

And my favorite part of the book is actually the very first page that she dedicated to her husband : “ Thank you John for convincing me that anyone who is interesting has a past”

I think that’s just beautiful.

ps: Thank you Cindy :)

Which section?

How often do you visit a bookstore? Weekly? Once a month? Barely?
Have to admit that it has been a while since my last book shopping. A while as in...two weeks? Ha!
Just wondering, what is the section that you approach first?
On each visits, I am most likely with a list of book titles I am searching for...so, it really depends on the books on my list. My sister Volent heads to children's area first (yes, for her son), my friend Ratih is a romance reader so she shows interest only to romance/chick lit aisles.

Now what's the section you less likely to look? Mine is.. self help. Hahaha. Yes. I feel like I am downward miserable if I have to read all those things. No offense, I think they all are great... Back in college, I read a few tho!
But now...  when life is way more interesting as it is making much more non sense and I managed to keep that little girl soul alive in me... I'd rather not look for another self help guide:)

Taking Weather

You know... I love staring at the sky. That's the first thing I do when I  wake up. Not to decide what my mood is going to be but... well, yea...to think of other things I secretly play in my mind.
When I see a blue sky, I think of a baby boy's blanket...Clouds can sometimes look like a cotton candy, baby elephant, shark, angel, a whip of butter, or a kind giant to me.
When it rains, I love to think that the drops are actually soldiers from heaven and each of them have something to tell to me. To.me.only.
Thunder storms and dark clouds have different meanings. They are old wise men who are too upset with how horrible the world can be.
And with stars? Ha... Each twinkle promises a good night sleep to me :)

How about you? Do you take weather personally too?
